Talking About How People Look
We see many different people every day. Everyone has their own unique appearance. Describing how people look is a useful skill in English. We often talk about a person’s height, build, hair, and face.
Height and Build
People can be tall, short, or medium-height. Their body shape, or build, can be described in different ways. Someone might be thin, slender, muscular, athletic, or have a large build. It’s important to use polite words when describing someone’s build.
Hair
Hair has three main features: length, color, and style.
- Length: Hair can be long, short, medium-length, or even bald.
- Color: Common colors are blonde, brunette (brown), black, red, and gray.
- Style: People style their hair in many ways. It can be straight, wavy, or curly. It might be in a ponytail, braids, or a bun.
Face and Eyes
The face is very noticeable. We often describe the shape of a face (like round, oval, or square) and special features like glasses, a beard, or freckles (small brown spots on the skin).
Eyes also have color and shape. Eye colors include blue, brown, green, and hazel. We can say someone has big, small, or almond-shaped eyes.
